Las funciones generales de la vitamina D3son elevar los niveles plasmáticos de calcio y fósforo hasta niveles que permitan la mineralización ósea normal y que prevenga la tetania, la cual se presenta si el calcio plasmático desciende en forma brusca por debajo de lo normal.
El calcio es un mineral fundamental en las aves, ya que es el principal componente de los huesos y la cáscara del huevo, además de desempeñar un papel fundamental en su organismo.
